Indianapolis, Indiana – On a hot summer day in Indianapolis, Indiana, a dog named Flash was tethered outside and left to die in the heat. His owner, 27-year-old Melinda Ryan, broke the law, but was only hit with a small fine for Flash’s death. Worse? She is allowed to keep her remaining dogs! Please join us in asking the Marion County prosecutor’s office to charge Ryan for her criminal negligence which left Flash dead.

Melinda Ryan adopted her pit bull mix, Flash, from the city shelter in October 2018. In June 2019, the dog died in her backyard while tethered without shelter from the sun. Ryan’s punishment? A paltry $235 (a $100 civil penalty and $135 in court costs) AND she gets to keep her remaining dogs.

Flash died a miserable death, on a hot day, as a direct result of the “care” that Ryan provided him. Please join us in asking the Marion County prosecutor’s office to criminally charge her for Flash’s death. The fine that Ryan must pay is so small that it is meaningless – her punishment sends the message to other animal abusers that little to nothing will be done to them if they treat their dog cruelly.
